From SOFA to handbag

Re/TOTE is created using post-consumer materials.  Each bag tells a unique story since the elements used had previously served a completely different purpose — a process known as repurposing.

By using what already exists, Re/TOTE is less harmful on our environment.

Leather is salvaged from sofas sourced locally.  We only accept furniture that is otherwise headed for landfill. Handles are repurposed from thrift store leather belts. Linings are made from thrift store bed linens. Much of the hardware is repurposed from a variety of thrift store finds, including old purses, curtain rings, and belt buckles.

Since I source such a wide variety of materials, I am continually designing new and vibrant, one of a kind bags.  Each Re/TOTE bag is unique, no two are the same.

The process

  1. Furniture is picked up and brought home for deconstruction.

  2. Leather is removed and cleaned.

  3. Cushion zippers are removed for reuse.

  4. The leather colour and texture often inspires what Re/TOTE designs I want to use it in.

What customers Are Saying about Re/Tote

“My bag arrived yesterday and I couldn’t be more pleased.  A genuine piece of art.  I am in love.  Thank you so much.”

- Cath

“My daughter in law, gave me one of your bags for Christmas. I am so impressed with your work. What a super gift. She has one and I was admiring it.”

- Doris

“Got my tote. :-).   Wow, wow, wow. Nothing I don’t love about it. Love the lining fabric. Love the large inner zipper and large inner side pouch. Tote looks thin and sleek on the outside and huge on the inside, all my criteria. Ps. And believe me I’ve bought many purses and bags. Lol.”
